This code of conduct applies to participants in the Industrial Relations Society of Queensland (the Society) Mentoring Program.
1. Mentors and Mentees will: • engage in open and honest communications with each other and the Society. • agree on a time commitment that is suitable for their circumstances while also ensuring the program is worthwhile for both. • treat their communications with each other, and the Society, as confidential, unless consent is given to share or use the information, or it is required by law. • treat each other professionally and respectfully. • follow through on your commitments. • refrain from any conduct or communication that might be considered inappropriate in a workplace setting. • be mindful of each other’s professional and personal commitments, including when arranging meetings that may require time away during work hours.
2. Mentors will: • support the professional development and growth of their mentee through guidance, advice, and sharing of expertise. • provide suitable opportunities and time to share ideas, knowledge, and experiences with their mentee. • commit to attending scheduled meetings, preparing for sessions for receiving and giving constructive feedback, and actively engage in the mentoring process.
3. Mentees will: • be responsible driving the mentoring relationship including taking initiative to arrange initial contact as soon as possible and for organising and maintaining contact. • actively seek knowledge, feedback, and guidance from their mentors. • commit to attending scheduled meetings, preparing for sessions and for receiving and giving constructive feedback, and actively engage in the mentoring process.
4. In the event of a dispute: • early discussions should occur between mentor and mentee to resolve the dispute, where possible. • If discussions do not resolve matters, contact should be made with the Society as soon as possible.
5. The Society will not:
be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever (including, without limitation, indirect, special or consequential loss), expense, damage, personal injury or death which is suffered or sustained (whether or not arising from any person's negligence) in connection with the program, except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law (in which case that liability is limited to the minimum allowable by law).
